Gum Care and Treatment at Periodontal Croydon

Gum treatment from Gentle Dental Care If you are in the early stages of gum disease, this can usually be treated by a dental hygienist. When you visit a hygienist, they will:
  • Carry out a hygiene assessment to look for inflammation, bleeding, soft plaque and hard deposits (calculus).
  • Carry out a scale and polish, removing soft and hard debris and deposits from teeth and gums. If you have more advanced gum disease your hygienist will refer you on to the relevant dental professional.
  • They may carry out treatments such as: Root planing. This consists of a deep clean underneath the gums to get rid of bacteria. Periodontal surgery. It’s possible that you might need specific surgery, or to have a tooth removed.
  • Your dentist may also prescribe a course of antibiotics depending on the treatment you are undergoing. Our award-winning specialist, Dr Mish, will restore your gums back to perfect health.

What Our Patients Say...

Frequently Asked Questions

You should see a specialist about your gums if you experience any of the following symptoms:
  • bleeding gums when brushing or flossing
  • painful gums
  • Swollen gums
  • loose teeth
  • or if your gums feel tender when touched

From the earliest stage of gingivitis, it can take months or years to develop periodontitis, depending on individual patient. But this is only the case if the gingivitis is allowed to progress unchecked by a periodontist. If you are concerned then it’s important to get your gum health checked asap.

Gum disease is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue around your teeth. Without treatment, periodontitis can destroy the bone that supports your teeth.

Avoiding treatment for periodontitis can cause gaps in your teeth, receding gums, sensitive teeth, mouth sores and tooth loss. Gum disease has also been connected to an array of serious health issues, such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and more
